Here you can also add photo to the required contact to personalize them. But, you should remember that you can do this only with the contact that you've saved on your phone, not the SIM. Well, there are two ways you can do to assign a photo to the contact: through Contacts app or through Gallery app.

How to add photo to contact through Contacts app?
Here are the steps you need to do if you want to set photo to contact through Contact app:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap the required contact you wish to add a photo.
  4. Tap the Edit icon to edit the contact.
  5. Tap on the blank contact image.
  6. Now you will see two options available on pop up menu. They are:
    • Image: Select this option if you want to use image from your Gallery as photo contact.
    • Take picture: Select this option if you want to take the picture using camera then use it as photo contact.
  7. Tap Done button.
  8. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.
  9. Finish. Now you have managed to add photo to the selected contact through Contacts app.

How to add photo to contact through Gallery app?
While if you want to set photo to contact through Gallery app, then kindly follow the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Gallery.
  3. Go to the required folder where you save the photo you want to add to contact.
  4. Tap the required photo.
  5. Tap the Menu key.
  6. On pop up menu select Set as.
  7. Tap Contact Photo.

  9. Tap Done button.
  10. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.
  11. Finish. Now you have managed to add photo to the selected contact through Gallery apps.

By knowing how to add photo to contact in two different methods, now you can do it using one of the methods mentioned above that best suits you. So, hope it helps :)

    1. Hi Alaa sweet,
      Thanks for coming.
Also I'm so sorry in advance, seems I forgot something while writing this article. If you use the first methods, after you choose the desired contact, tap the edit button then tap the blank contact image to get the option.

    2. Hi Rehan & Alaa Sweet,
I'm not sure is it normal or not... but i can only change the picture on my google+ contacts, not to add image to my phone contacts (which will be more useful actually).
Is there any chance to do it?
ps I tried the method above and via gallery... but it recognize only google+ contacts.
      Thanks!!!

    3. Hi Thaichi,
      Thanks for coming.
Try to only display contact from Phone/device then try to assign certain picture from the Gallery app as the contact picture. However, when you change the contact picture from the Contact apps, did you receive an error or notification?

    1. Hi Raquel,
      Thanks for coming.
Unfortunately, you can't add picture on the contact you saved on your SIM. Usually the user only be able to save the name and numbers in the contact saved in the SIM card.

  4. Hey there,
Do you happen to know any way to change every contact photo at once? The default picture is creepy but I can't figure out if I can change them all without doing it individually .

      Thanks for coming.
AFAIK, there's no common methods to change all the contact pictures at once. But, I might be wrong. So, if anybody here know how to do so, please share the steps here to help Christenah solve the problem.

    3. Hi Ashley Waters,
      Thanks for coming.
Unfortunately, till I write this reply I have not yet find the steps to change those default contact pictures nor the one who know how to do so. You can change the picture individually, but this of course will take lot of times especially if you have lot of contacts.

    1. Hi Zena Swiggs,
      Thanks for coming.
I've tried to find what was caused your problem, but I found nothing. However, when you're in the Messaging app, tap the contact picture in the left side of a message then tap the contact's name. It'll bring you to a contact detail screen. Now, tap the Edit button then see where the contact is saved. From here you can also add/change a picture to the contact. Once done, tap Save button. Back to the Messaging app, now see the contact's pictures in a message, do they have photos or not?

    2. Hello Rehan, I have the same problem as Zena Swiggs, I have imported come contacts from sim card to save on phone so I could add a picture (is there an option to convert all sim contacts to phone contacts in one go?), this worked, however, messages from the same contact are still in sim form with no photo, how does this change? When I try an alternative route by going to the list of contacts saved on phone (via 'contacts to display) and tap the message option to see if I may need to start a new message this way, it brings me to the same conversations we have previously had in the sim card option.

    3. Hi MoonLittleMoon,
      Thanks for coming.
You can see the complete steps to copy contacts from SIM to phone here:http://inside-galaxy.blogspot.com/2013/05/samsung-galaxy-s3-how-to-copy-contact.html

However, if you don't mind, try to copy a contact from SIM to phone, add photos and then delete the SIM contact you've just copied. Theoretically, when you have an incoming text message from this contact, the photo contact will be displayed in Messaging app.
