Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Change Screen Lock Type in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

By default, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge uses swipe as the screen lock type which mean you just need to swipe your finger on the lock screen to unlock it. However, there are some screen lock types available that you can use when you want to use other method to unlock the screen or give more protection for your phone from unauthorized users by using a screen lock type with secure lock functions, e.g., PIN, password, fingerprints, etc.

How to change the screen lock type?
As the example, we'll change the screen lock type from the default(swipe) to PIN by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Lock screen and security and then tap it.
  3. Tap Screen lock type.
  4. Select PIN.
  5. Enter 4 digit PIN numbers you want to use and then tap Continue button.
  6. Re-enter your PIN number to verify it and then tap OK button.
  7. Select the required display option for notifications on the lock screen. There are three options available:
    • Show content: select this option if you'd like your phone shows notifications and its contents on the lock screen. This option is enabled by default
    • Hide content: Select this option if you'd like your phone shows notifications without its contents on the lock screen.
    • Do not show notifications: select this option if you'd like your phone doesn't show any notification on the lock screen.
    Once done, tap Done button.
  8. Here, you'll be asked whether you want to turn on and use fingerprints as screen lock type as well as your PIN. You can tap Later button to setup this feature later, or tap Setup button to use and start registering your fingerprints. If you select to setup fingerprints, follow the on-screen instructions to complete configurations.
  9. Press the Power key twice to go to the lock screen.
  10. To unlock the screen, swipe your finger on the screen followed by entering your 4 digit PIN numbers and then tap OK button.
